Greater Moncton is sustained by a number of key economic sectors creating a wide‑ranging business landscape. Greater Moncton has become a national customer contact centre for the insurance industry as well. In the Information and Communications Technology Sector, Greater Moncton is home to a development centre for CGI, the biggest ICT services firm in Canada. Elite, a Thomson Reuters subsidiary, develops professional services software in the community. EMC2, a global leader in cloud computing services, has an operation in Greater Moncton. There are more than 190 manufacturing firms located in Greater Moncton and they employ more than 5,000 people, making it the third largest manufacturing centre in Atlantic Canada. Molson Coors operates a regional brewery in the community and Amcor and Pepsi provide bottling services for regional markets in Atlantic Canada. Wood and paper related manufacturing employs more than 1500 workers in Greater Moncton, anchored by Irving Consumer Products and Norampac. More than 800 people work in metal fabrication and equipment manufacturing with Apex Industries and SPIELO as the two largest players.
Gaming and Animation
Greater Moncton is home to a growing number of gaming and animation firms. The ecosystem is anchored by Casino New Brunswick, the second largest casino and gaming facility in Atlantic Canada with more than 200 employees. The Atlantic Lottery Corporation has its head office in Greater Moncton and has a staff of more than 350 people. The area is also home to SPIELO, a world leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of high performance and innovative gaming machines. It has over 400 employees and is part of the Lottomatica Group, one of the largest lottery operators in the world.
Professional Services
There are more than 3,300 people employed in the professional services sector in Greater Moncton. New Brunswick as a province has one of the most export-intensive engineering sectors in Canada, and many come out of the Greater Moncton area. Some of Canada’s leading firms have operations in the tri‑community area including Hatch Mott MacDonald, EXP, MCW Maricor, WSP Global and Stantec. Tourism
Greater Moncton has a network of family‑friendly trails and parklands, as well as a wide array of golf courses, restaurants and many performing arts experiences. Parlee Beach in Shediac, one of New Brunswick’s most popular tourist venues, attracts more than one million visitors per year. During peak season, it can boast more than 25,000 people per day alone.
The Bay of Fundy is a tourism icon with the Hopewell Rocks, Fundy National Park, Mary’s Point and Cape Enrage all offering visitors an unforgettable experience. As well, six golf courses are identified across the region. The Poley Mountain ski resort provides wintertime recreational opportunities as do the extensive cross‑country ski trails and groomed snowmobile trails throughout the region.
